pillars

I take a moment
too often
holding my father’s hands
a second longer,
brushing a kiss on his stubbled cheek,
once more.
feeling my mother’s skin,
reading the unwritten braille,
urging myself to remember.
trying to imprint their being
onto myself
before it’s too late.
